THE NEWS OF THE CENTURK - (Y to K)

The HopeThe age of change, the turn of the Centurk. As kou probablk have noticed to this point this Newsletter has complied with the Centurk date change rollover in stkle. Carefullk I have went through to ensure the newsletter is "totallk Y2K Compliant". Painstakenlk, I went through and changed all the Y's to K's. So now it will not Crash!!

But on a lighter note: (if that wasnt light enough!) Only that part you have read up until now is Y2K compliant. Enough of a good thing, HUH? But lets stop and reflect. Century date change rollover. This is the very first occurance that involves computers, and with the proliferation of computing devices, (not just the desk top computer), but think of the clocks, the auto, the toasters, the VCR, the Video Cameras, the medical equipment that has embedded chips that carry date sensitive information (sometimes hard coded into the devices). This WAS (AND IS) a monumental problem facing the world economy. We will not even soon know all the impacts of Y2K. Not for months, and possibly even years. But folks... for us it is a golden opportunity. Keep good records of EVERYTHING. News paper articles, record any news events, what happens and happened. This will NEVER happen again, and to record each and every one of our own personal experiences with Y2K, will be history information to pass along with our genealogical information.

CJ&Hat
More of Charles Jacob

Having got to go home and visit over the Holiday, I could not resist collecting more pictures. The above picture of little CJ is one of the best. This little guy is so photogenic, and with gramps, and son both running around with loaded camera's, the pictures just keep on coming!!

Below is another that my son David and wife Lisa had taken of all three grandkids. Now maybe I am partial, but I am beginning to think they all three are very photogenic.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

We all have many different stories, and information about Daniel and Sarah (Wentworth) Mathena. As they were the recognized progenitors of the US emigration of the Matheny-Metheny-Mathena clan. True there quite possibly is other connections. As we continue the research on the family name, we have unproven connections to Ireland, and Scotland. It is also quite possible as the "Metteneye's" of England certainly had many more relatives, than just Daniel and Michael who emigrated to Jamestown (Virginia Colony) on about 1660.

But during the planning and getting the Reunion together last August, I had a biographical sketch that was written by Edwin Powell, that gives a very complete look at Daniel and Sarah. This is very complete, and covers much of the early works of WBM (William Blake Metheny), and other sources collected to bring it all together. Much thanks go to Ed Powell for this. A shorter version was supplied on the Reunion Programs, but I thought it appropriate to include the full text here. Read the Complete Biographical Sketch here.

GENEALOGY WORLD

More changes are coming to the Genealogy World Site. With it open to the Internet World with a Free Membership, the number of members has grown to almost 1700 members. I am adding another Family Group Site. The "Cox" Family, (Rita's Brother Roger is doing the site), and will host Cox family information, pictures, and their lineage. Once the Cox site becomes active, visit it, as some of you may have Cox connections too. Other things being added also, are more databases. I have four more sets of GedComs that will be converted for display, and Roger has built a Cox database for the Cox Site. If ANY of you have other family group that might want a site like MRR, or the Cox site. let me know.. It can be fun, and with the traffic we are getting at GW, your information and YOUR family group site could share in the increased traffic.. The current sustained average hits there are between 60-70 hits a day.

Visit there SOON

MRR GROUP NEWS

Each and every month, through my website "guestbook" I find new related cousins, and send them to the MRR site to get involved. It is amazing how many people find my personal site, and offer me information on the Metheny Clan, and tell me all about Daniel and Sarah, Hope Plantation, and tracings back to early France. My stock answer has been, "Have I got some News for You!!" 8-). But the group continues to grow, and now with the Y2K Holidays over, the Committee will start actively planning for the 2001 Reunion. Expect to see some email traffic about it, because we will be asking for your ideas and buy-in on the ones we have now.

News From Illinois and VA.

Well right now it seems the Y2K crisis is mostly over. As I was setting here working up the news, I was listneing to the radio, and reports coming in from most of the east coast were good, and no major problems. My (and Rita's) Computers rolled over to the new millenium without a hitch. And since this IS JANUARY FIRST, I guess I will show one more picture!! Mr Cool Has a Birthday!! Jeff told me when I took this pix, that this was his "Mr Cool" pose... What ya all think??
